Press Release

04-11-2016

Sophia’s Heart Milwaukee is thrilled to announce the appointment of its new Music Direct, Milwaukee Public School Music Teacher Charlene Ulichny. Ms. Ulichny, or as the kids affectionately call her “Ms. U,” assumes the role of directing the after school music and arts program for youth 11-17  years of age. “We are absolutely delighted to be making this announcement and very much looking forward to Ms. U’s input and vision for the program,” says Sophia’s Heart Interim CEO, Lakesha Jones. Ms. U holds degrees from Cardinal Stritch University, VanderCook College of Music, Carroll University, and University of Wisconsin – Madison in Music Education. She is certified in Instrumental Music and General Music Education. In addition to working with us at Sophia’s Heart Foundation, she has been a Music Teacher in Milwaukee Public Schools since 2011 and has also formally worked within the Waukesha and Kettle Morraine School Districts. She has had the pleasure of teaching several of our resident students through Milwaukee Public Schools. “I have always had a passion for teaching music. My ‘dream job’ was always to prepare future musicians and music teachers for real world experiences. Being at Sophia’s Heart will give me the chance to be part of how music impacts learning and I look forward to helping the students reach their goals” Ms. U said.

Ms. U will draw on her diverse musical background to bring new strengths to the program and already has created a bond with the students. For questions, or to personally congratulate Ms. U on her appointment, please email her at charlene@sophiasheart.org.
